After 1950 a substance was added to paper (ultra white) which made paper whiter, this caused the fluorescence visible in paper. A label of a bottle of wine from before 1950 will never light up under UV-A(365nm) light. Old adhesives from before 1960 with which the label is stuck on the bottle hardly react to UV-A(365nm) light, newer synthetic adhesives do light up under UV-A(365nm) light.
